About Us!
Tashia grew up in Utah and her Mother would plant a garden each year in their almost 1/4 acre backyard. Tashia always remembered how wonderful it was to have all of the fresh berries and vegetables grown in the garden and dreamed of having a garden of her own. She also remembered all of the hard work and large amont of space it took to enjoy all of the wonderful crops.
For years Tashia has though shewould like to have a garden of her own, but living in Southern California she thought it was impossible with the time and space she assumed was required to have such a garden.
One day Steve, Tashia's husband, was replacing a door fro their friends Charlie and Bev at their home. They showed him their wonderful gardens scattered about the yard in planters and flowerbeds. They told Steve and Tashia that they were doing Square Foot Gardening and how easy it was and how much food it produced. Tashia thought this was a grand idea but was discouraged because the thought of working at ground or knee level seemed an impossible task due to her lower back issues.
A couple of months went by and Tashia's Father and his wife Marti (2nd Mom) came out to visit. Tashia and Steve took them on a trip to the San Juan Mission so that Tashia and her Father could photograph the flowers. As they were all leaving the Mission Marti presented Tashia with a book she had purchased for her in the gift shop. Marti had seen a display of Square Foot Gardens at the back of the Mission and so the book she "The New Square Foot Gardening" book by Mel Bartholomew for Tashia.
Once Tashia began reading the book she was hooked. A lightbulb went off in her head and she decided that she would finally have Steve tear out the old spa that was now being used by a hive of bees, and have him build her a raised Square Foot Garden so that whe would not have to bend over and aggravate her lower back.
The space was perfect. It had a large cement pad and had full sun for over 6 hours of the day including early morning. What Tashia didn't realize was how easy it was. With the Square foot gardening method her gardening work consisted of planting watering and watching it grow. Of course there was the added benefit of all of the wonderful crops.
After over 25 years of wishing Tashia now has a garden she can enjoy, and she wants to help others who thought that having a garden was impossible for them as well.
